Researching Your Opponents
(last updated Dec. 2, 2009)

Over time, the randomness of the deck provides all players with the same range of hands. What each player does with each hand will make the difference between winning or losing.

If two players have the same hand - pair of deuces (all others folded), which player will win? The winner will more often be the one who has a better idea of his opponents patterns, etc.

Why Research Opponents?
1. Which player is distracted or pre-occupied by other tables
2. Who is playing only 1 table... but is slow to act on every hand (other distractions or new player?)
3. Which player reguarly raises pre-flop and makes a continuation bet on the flop
4. Who has a real hand when raising, etc, etc.

Basic Research
1. During first 25 hands, fold all hands but AA & KK. Without prior knowledge of the other players' trends,
and you do not know whther your opponent(s) is a regularly check-raiser, slow-playing
a big pair or seeing a first hand in the last 50 hands.
2a. Determine which player is folding almost every single hand preflop - very tight!
2b. Which player(s) is calling almost every hand preflop - loose.
2c. Which player(s) raises almost every hand preflop - aggressive
3. Think about the same as #2 (above) for each betting round.
4a. After first 25 hands, use `Find Player' for each opponent
(go to Full Tilt Lobby, under `Requests', locate `Find a Player')
(type in each opponent's name and click FIND - double check name spelling)
4b. For each opponent add info to `Notes'
      (sample notes: "plays 5 SNGs + 1 Cash (.01/.02) + 1 Rebuy Tourn")
4c. After 50 hands, re-do `Find' to see if any player has joined more tables, or is now concentrating only on your table
5. Most players play the same way all of the time.
6. For tournaments and SNGs, regularly check `Last Hand' details (click on Hand# in upper left corner) to see who is `Sitting Out'
(players may be `sitting out' for a quick washroom break... or may be disconnected for the night)
(players disconnected for longer periods leave their blinds to be fought over by observant players)
7. Always re-evaluate players during middle and later stages of game
